1. The Bony Orbit

The orbit consists of four walls formed by several skull bones:
- Roof: Formed by the orbital plate of the frontal bone and the lesser wing of the sphenoid.
- Lateral Wall: Formed by the greater wing of the sphenoid and the zygomatic bone.
- Floor: Formed by the zygomatic bone and the maxilla.
- Medial Wall: Formed by the maxilla, lacrimal bone, and the orbital plate of the ethmoid bone.

2. Orbital Openings and Contents

Specific structures enter or exit the orbit through three main openings:
- Optic Canal: Contains the Optic nerve and the Ophthalmic artery.
- Inferior Orbital Fissure: Contains the Infraorbital nerve and Infraorbital vessels.
- Superior Orbital Fissure (SOF): This is divided by the tendinous ring:
- Inside the Ring: Superior and inferior divisions of Oculomotor nerve (CN III), Nasociliary nerve, and Abducent nerve (CN VI).
- Outside the Ring: Trochlear nerve (CN IV), Frontal nerve, Lacrimal nerve, and the Ophthalmic veins.

  1. Fibrous Coat (Outer):
    • Sclera: The "white" of the eye (posterior 5/6); provides protection.
    • Cornea: The transparent anterior 1/6; allows light to enter.
  2. Vascular Coat (Middle/Uvea):
    • Choroid: Pigmented and highly vascular posterior part.
    • Ciliary Body: Contains the Ciliary muscle (for accommodation) and Ciliary processes (secrete aqueous humor).
    • Iris: The colored part with a central Pupil.
  3. Nervous Coat (Inner):
    • Retina: Contains the optic part (sensitive to light) and the non-visual part.
    • Optic Disc: The "blind spot" where the optic nerve exits; lacks photoreceptors.
    • Macula Lutea: Contains the Fovea centralis, the area of highest visual acuity.
